Alex Elias Qualifying for the 123rd U.S. Open Championship, held at Los Angeles Country Club (Los Angeles, CA), Christian Cavaliere earned one of four qualifying spots at Canoe Brook Country Club (Summit, NJ). Carding a -4 67 in the opening round, Cavaliere finished with a 6-under-par score of 136 over 36 holes.
"Pretty surreal feeling to qualify. Just a crazy day on Monday and it's been a crazy week since then. Obviously I'm not playing on a serious level anymore, and my focus has been completely on my business with Tremont so to qualify for the biggest tournament of my life amidst it all is just such a bizarre thing that I am so grateful for. To be honest, I was so nervous coming down the stretch because I haven't had literally any competitive or pressure packed reps since some events last summer. I just had a great feeling in my swing that I found over the past weekend, striked it solid, made a few putts, and found myself in that position. So glad I was able to grind it out and I am just going to absolutely soak in the experience next week," said Cavaliere. With Los Angeles Country Club on the horizon, Cavaliere said, "I don't really have a mindset for LACC, this is all just an incredible experience. I play golf now because I love to compete and I love to challenge myself, not really for any big goal or long term trajectory anymore. I am not really setting any expectations or goals for myself, similar to my approach on Monday, just going to go out and absorb the whole experience, stay present and just try to realize how lucky I am to be there and how lucky I am to have this opportunity." "I honestly am going to try to be so casual about the experience and the tournament next week. I want to embrace the journey and the opportunity and just see what happens. Sure I will play my ass off and I will definitely be locked in come Thursday but before then it's just going to be like how much fun I can have this week and how can I absorb as much of this as possible," said Cavaliere. As Cavaliere mentioned his business, Tremont Sporting Co., he spoke of the immense support he's received, saying, "The support has been incredible from my friends, family, and my team at Tremont. I had my phone off pretty much the whole day on Monday so I didn't know the boys were all following along at the shop but to know they were refreshing feverishly and getting updates from people on property at Canoe Brook is so awesome and that video of them freaking out after I made it was absolutely the funniest thing ever and I will watch that and laugh for years to come. The guys have been holding down the fort in West Palm so well and I can't thank them enough for keeping everything on track while I play a bit of golf this summer. It really has been so incredible. I tend to get super involved in my work day to day or my weekly schedule of Tremont and I stress about the business or my life, thinking I am not doing things fast enough or good enough and I beat myself down a lot. My goal for this year was to enjoy the moment more and take inventory of where I am at and be grateful for it. When I take a step back and look at what has happened in the past few years I almost get emotional because it's been a dream come true. I get to live with my best friends in one of the most beautiful places in the country, I get to work every day with my best friends at a business we are building together, I get to play golf after work and on the weekends at some of the best courses in the world both in Florida and New York, I get to work with some of most incredible courses and people in the country with Tremont. I don't know I'm definitely rambling at this point but I just am very grateful for the things happening in my life and this week has really put some things in perspective for me to realize things are really good and I am very lucky. The golf for me is all just gravy at this point, I'm hoping to go out there and let loose, see what happens and just be thankful for all that this game has given me." Cavaliere, Class of 2020 at Boston College, has qualified for 4 U.S. Amateurs and is one of eighteen amateurs in the field.
