John VanDerLaan's Fiancé, Hannah Whisman, Caddies For Him At The Chitimacha Louisiana Open3/31/2022 Alex Elias Credit: @kornferrytour on Tik Tok When John VanDerLaan was asked about what went into the decision to have his fiancé, Hannah Whisman, on his bag, VanDerLaan responded, "This actually isn’t the first time she’s caddied for me on tour. She caddied for me in our KFT event in Knoxville last year and she killed it there. It was kind of a last minute thing but she really wanted to do it and she learned all the small things like who grabs the flag and who puts it back and cleaning clubs and all that, so I really had nothing to worry about. Before our Lafayette event, my regular caddy let me know he needed the week off because he was dealing with some personal family stuff, so it was a no brained to have her back on the bag!"
While the couple's remarkable connection is evident, VanDerLaan spoke about the impact of having his fiancé on his bag, saying, "We just try and have fun out there. She’s my best friend and having her on the bag makes it easy to have fun. When we’re not hitting shots, it’s not about golf, and we can just enjoy spending time and actually working together instead of her just watching from the other side of the ropes. I typically play my best when I’m just having fun and not putting pressure on myself or trying to force anything." "It just makes it fun for both of us and something we can do together to work towards The PGA Tour," said VanDerLaan. As VanDerLaan reflected on the week, VanDerLaan said, "It’s awesome and I really don’t take it for granted. I got lucky to get her as my future wife and I try and take advantage of the opportunities we do have to spend time together. It’s special that she gets to travel with me most weeks but working together inside the ropes every now and then is just awesome and I try and recognize that in the moment. She’s my biggest supporter and I couldn’t do it without her so having her there for every shot makes it even more special!"
