Who wouldn't want to be like the Big Cat. On September 29th, 2020, Jermaine Kearse announced his retirement, after eight seasons in the NFL. Beginning his career as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Washington, Kearse signed with the Seattle Seahawks in 2012, and quickly became one of Seattle's most important and reliable contributors. While a member of the New York Jets, Kearse, who began golfing in 2013, played in The 2018 Pro-Am at The Travelers Championship alongside Jordan Spieth, where Kearse's brother, Jovan Kearse, said, "It's been an interesting ride to see where he started to where he is now. It's kind of like his football career. He started out undrafted out of college, and he's come a long way," in speaking of Kearse as an avid golfer. As Kearse's brother acknowledged the similarity, Kearse said, "My football career has been a journey in its own. There has been ups and there has been downs and I have tried to take the experience that I gained through those moments and apply it to my golf game. I started playing golf in 2013/14 and I'm determined to get better at it every day and that was my mindset when playing football as well." Having played in 109 career games, including Super Bowl XLVIII (Champion) and Super Bowl XLIX, Kearse has experienced countless lessons that he now applies to golf. Kearse said, "Like football, golf has a next opportunity mindset. It has definitely helped me get over previous plays and focus on the next task at hand. Always being ready for the next opportunity." As an avid golfer, Kearse described his love for the game, saying, "Like many, I fell in love with the game of golf the first time on the course. As a former professional athlete, I'm extremely competitive. I feel golf has given me that outlet to not only enjoy myself with my friends but also compete with some of the best golfers in the area. One of my favorite things about golf is that it has taken me to places I probably would not have gone otherwise. There is something about golf that just brings everyone together and I always have an appreciation for that."
Just as football taught Kearse many lesson, Kearse said golf has taught him, "to be patient, resilient, and authentic."

Alex Elias In a season in which featured 28 members of the rookie class, Brandon Wu recorded the 4th most Top-10 finishes (4), only behind Cameron Young (7), Davis Riley (6), and Sahith Theegala (5). When speaking of his four Top-10 finishes, as well as qualifying for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, Wu said, "After last year I finally feel like I belong, that I have what it takes to be successful on tour and that I can compete with the best." Wu continued, "You always have the thought you can but it’s different when you prove to yourself and truly believe it."
As Wu mentioned, "it’s different when you prove to yourself and truly believe it," Wu acknowledged that the ability to believe in and trust your game is advice he received when he arrived on tour. Wu said the advice he received was: "Don’t change your game, rely on the strengths that got you to where you are today." Having already played four tournaments in the 2022-2023 PGA Tour season, Wu responded, "I had some great finishes last year but also missed a ton of cuts. The best players in the world are very consistent at making cuts and giving themselves opportunities on the weekend so that’s my goal this year, better consistency," when asked about his goals for the upcoming season. |
